The 1st International Workshop on Marine Litter
in the Northwest Pacific Region in Toyama, Japan 2005

The 1st International Workshop on Marine Litter in the Northwest Pacific Region was held on 14-15 November, 2005, in Toyama, Japan. The workshop was organized by the Japanese Ministry of Environment and the Northwest Pacific Region Environmental Cooperation Center (NPEC).

Presentations were delivered to address the marine litter issue at the both global and regional levels by representatives from the UNEP Regional Seas Programme, NOWPAP RCU and Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology.

Representatives from each NOWPAP member state made presentations under several subjects such as status reports on marine litter in the NOWPAP member countries; simulation model and monitoring of marine litter distribution in the Northwest Pacific region and its related areas; policy and management for marine litter in NOWPAP members; and other topics concerning marine litter.
