Results on Marine Litter Surveys in Korea

Marine litter data in Korea 2006 was provided by MOMAF. The monitoring activity was carried out at 7 places and there were 2
surveys, one in the early summer and the other in the late fall. The survey area is 100 square meters. A map is attached to show the monitoring locations.
The marine litter data was divided into 10 categories. They are: rubber, metal, wood, glass, formed styrene
(polystyrene), paper, plastic, clothes & fabrics, large item and others.
There are 7 sheets attached. The first is the average values of the piece and weight of marine litter are listed. The others are the details of the monitoring results in figures and diagrams.

Marine litter data in Korea 2005 was provided by MOMAF. The monitoring activity was carried out at
12 places from June to October. The survey area is 100 square meters. A map is attached to show the monitoring locations.
The marine litter was divided into 10 categories. They are: rubber, metal, wood, glass, formed styrene
(polystyrene), paper, plastic, clothes & fabrics, large item and others.
There are 5 sheets attached. The first is the average values of the piece and weight of marine litter are listed. The second is the detailed information of marine litter in the piece. The third is the diagrams to show the monitoring results at the different sites. The forth and the fifth are similar to the second and the third sheets, the only difference is marine litter in their weight instead of piece.

Only marine litter in number of pieces was
conducted in the surveys.
Sheet 1:MOMAF data 2004 (pieces)
Marine litter data (in pieces) in Korea 2004 was
derived from the ICC 2004 campaign in Korea. The 2004 ICC was
carried out at 20 sites in Korea. The attached map is to show
the locations.
The marine litter data was divided into 5 categories by their
sources. They are shoreline and recreational activities,
ocean/waterway activities, smoking-related activities, dumping
activities, and medical/personal hygiene.

This sheet is the summary of marine litter monitoring
conducted in Korea. The sheet shows marine
litter data, both in number of items and in weights per square
kilometer per year, at the 13 sites. There is a survey map
attached to the sheet.

November 2003 respectively. The items of marine litter were
divided into 10 categories. The number of marine litter count
per square kilometer was shown in the sheet. A site map was
attached to show the locations.

Two surveys were carried out at 17 sites in October and in
November 2003 respectively. The items of marine litter were
divided into 10 categories. The weight of marine litter per
square kilometer was shown in the sheet. A site map was attached

pieces. The survey was conducted at the 18 sites from August 2000
to March 2001. The exact survey areas for each site were listed
in the sheet. The items of marine litter were divided into 12
categories. The number of marine litter count was shown in the
sheet. A site map was attached to show the locations.
Sheet 2: MOMAF data 2000 (weight)
This sheet shows the survey results of marine litter in weight.
The survey conducted at the 18 sites from August 2000 to March
2001. The exact survey areas for each site were listed in the
sheet. The items of marine litter were divided into 12
categories. The weight of marine litter was shown in the sheet.
A site map was attached to show the locations.
