Accidents in the Northwest Pacific Region
in the Northwest Pacific Region -
In July 1997, the First Meeting of NOWPAP Forum on Marine Pollution Preparedness and Response agreed to identify the sources of existing data on fate and effects of oil pollution accidents in the NOWPAP region. Information on each accident recorded in the list includes information on the date and place of the spill or accident, the ship(s) or installation(s) involved, the type and quantity of pollutant, and a brief description of the fate and effect of the accident. The following lists describe the oil spill accidents with quantity over 50 tones from 1990 to 1997 in the NOWPAP member States, which was submitted to the Second Forum Meeting held in Daejeon, Republic of Korea in April 1998. Recent information on spill accidents with spillage over than 10 tons has been continuously updating by MERRAC as one of the Routine Tasks (based on the input of the member States) and revised on a regular basis by the NOWPAP MERRAC Focal Points Meeting.
