DINRAC Participated CCICED 2018 AGM and Theme Forum on Marine Environmental Governance

On November 2, 2018, the theme forum on Marine Environment Governance of CCICED (China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development) 2018 Annual General Meeting was held in Beijing. The forum aims to promote marine sustainable development, to facilitate the concept of ecological civilization to guide marine environmental protection and to enhance the common well-being of international community. Topics of the status and challenges of marine biodiversity conservation, marine land-based pollution and its impact, and marine environmental governance strategies and actions are included. NOWPAP DINRAC has participated this forum.

The forum was co-chaired by Vidar Helgesen, vice-chairman of the Joint Commission, Norwegian Special Envoy of the High-level Panel on Sustainable Marine Economy, former Minister of Climate Change and Environment of Norway, and SU Jilan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, honorary director of the Second Institute of Oceanography of the State Oceanic Administration of China.

Marine experts at the forum recommended that the relevant implementation rules of marine environmental management should be strengthened, the pollution discharge regulations of marine fisheries should be formulated, the relevant laws and regulations of mariculture should be improved, the sustainability of mariculture management should be guaranteed, and the coordination of the competent governmental departments needs to be strengthened.

This forum has conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges on the hot topics in terms of global marine environmental governance. Oceans have a significant impact on the Earth's ecosystem. Governments, international organizations, social organizations as well as enterprises should face up to major issues and challenges related to the marine environment and strengthen international and regional partnerships in the field of marine environment. Moreover, the prospective research and technical solution, quantitatively evaluate the service function of marine ecosystem, for the purpose of promoting the governance of marine environment should be taken into account accordingly.
